Melike Kus was born in Ankara, Turkey in 1997 and currently lives in Dublin. She graduated from Ankara Fine Arts High School in 2015, Department of Painting. Then, she completed her education at Anadolu University Painting Department in 2020. Inspired by her travels and different cultures, Kus discovers new techniques and forms in the fields of embroidery and painting. In his art, nature paintings, in which he deals with the theme of social change and transformation, and portraits, in which she deals with looking/seeing, come to the fore. Her works generally aim to make the viewer think deeply by focusing on color and texture.
Engaging with threads, she endeavors to tell a visual story by bringing together colors and textures. During the creative process, Kus focuses on creating organic textures, using natural fibers such as thread and wool fabric. She interacts with materials, incorporating techniques like knitting and embroidery. By approaching traditional textile techniques with a modern perspective, she merges them in her paintings, emphasizing the exploration of material nature and aesthetic expression.
Kus regularly evaluates the aesthetic and emotional aspects of her artworks. She examines elements such as color choices, pattern arrangements, and material usage, considering how the pieces will impact the audience. Since 2019, she has been continuing her artistic practice in Istanbul and Dublin, exhibiting her creations in international showcases and participating in art events. By showcasing her works, Melike Kus invites viewers to explore the artist’s unique perspective, emotions, and imagination, establishing eye contact with the audience.
